Rosencrantz Essays - English-language Films, British Films

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern As Shakespeare's Hamlet is recounted from another point of view, in Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, a new sense of witty comedy is sprung forth from the classic play. In all actuality, the play is classified as a tragic comedy, because although the dialogue and flow of the play is one of a laid back comedy, the play does end in death. It's as though the two, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, put off a sort of dumb vibe, I mean they can't even get their names straight. In the end though, I would have to say that their confusion is really the source of most of their stupidity. In one instance, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, play a question and answer type game to sharpen up on their skills for their upcoming encounter with Hamlet. In the Abbot and Costello, "Who's on First" style, the two would throw out a series of questions, confusing both the reader and themselves. Not only was the basis of their questions comical, but also the manner in which they asked them and scored themselves in a tennis-like way. Following this completely stupid question game the two enacted a hypothetical encounter with Hamlet. It almost took all of Rosencrantz's brain power just to understand the fact that Guildenstern was acting as Hamlet. The hilarious conversation ended up in Rosencrantz arriving at the following conclusion, "To sum up: your father, whom you love, dies, you are his heir, you come back to find that hardly was the corpse cold before his young brother popped onto his throne and into his sheets, thereby offending both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary manner?" In Act II, the lonesome couple, encounter some an acting group passing them by. In hope of a performance, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were quite surprised as to what the players had in mind. This scene is sure to crack a few laughs wherever it's performed. Here the two misunderstand what type of entertainment the players have in store for them, until he the head player suggests that they'd probably enjoy themselves more if they get involve. Finally, Guildenstern realized what they were getting at and clears up all the confusion with this statement, "No enigma, no dignity, nothing classical, portentous, only his?a comic pornographer and a rabble of prostitutes." These weren't the only examples of comedy in the play, but I found that both of these were very similar in the elements that made them funny. In both cases, comedy was the result of ironic and witty dialogue. The play in general was funny, and I it just goes to show how any story can change due to a change in perspective.

Pete Rose :: essays research papers

Peter Edward Rose was born in Cincinnati in 1941. He said that when he was growing up he rooted for the Cincinnati Reds just like every other kid in the area. In the summertime of most of his childhood years he played baseball constantly. He also played in high school, however he thinks that he was a better football player than a baseball player in school. He said that he liked to play football more because many people would attend the games, and not many showed up for baseball. "You could throw a bomb into the stands at our (high school) baseball games, and you wouldn't kill anyone". If it wasn't for Pete's uncle, who was a scout for the Cincinnati Reds, he would never nave played baseball. His uncle saw him play in high school and signed him to a contract with the Reds farm system. Pete started out at the class "A" level. He rose up quickly making the starting roster for the Reds opening day team in the same year, 1963. On opening day Pete said he wasn't nervous at all until about 10 minutes before the game. It hit him that he was now starting for the Cincinnati Reds, when not more than a year ago he thought football was his life. He walked in his first at bat, on 4 straight pitches. He said it wasn't because of nerves though, he just didn't want to swing. He got his first hit in the majors three games later, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 	Pete played with the Cincinnati Reds from 1963 to 1978, and then he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies. He played in Philly from 1979 to 1983, and then he went to the Montreal Expos for 1984. He stayed only one half year in Montreal, having a desire to retire in his hometown Cincinnati. He played his final two and a half years, 1984-1986, in Cincinnati, and then he retired. He then went on to become the Reds manager from 1987 to 1989. 	During his career Pete Rose was called "Charlie Hustle" because of the way that he played. He played a "blue-collar" game of baseball, running out everything, and diving headfirst into bases with regularity. Few players can or will ever match the passion that Pete Rose played with. Rose was the leadoff hitter for Cincinnati's "big red machine" which was a force in baseball in the 1970's.

In the creation of technological advances that survives today, the dispute of cloning is ever existent as a debate of morals and human rights. People are asking if we have the right to clone humans and other animals. Cloning, the process of taking a cell from one organism, taking a donor womb cell from another organism of the same species, inserting the original cell in the donor cell, and placing the newly developed embryo inside a surrogate mother. This is an inhumane desecration of human rights and an obscene act against the natural balance of life. There are those who think that cloning is a brilliant idea and that it is tolerable to create life from an individual which already exists. Those in support of cloning have countless reasons for their opinion. They say that clones and cloning can be used for medical and research purposes, that clones are capable of populating our military. Another reason for cloning is to replace a deceased child or pet, or to enable infertile couples to have children. But these people in support of cloning seem to ignore one key factor that makes this act a violation of nature. All living human beings have feelings and thoughts, and that also includes clones.
